Description:

SEMINAR:

The seminar will examine the significant changes within the 2007 CPC and CMC with emphasis on commercial kitchen installations.  The inspection process for gas lines, grease interceptors, and grease hoods as well as plan review and ventilation requirements will be addressed. The seminar is a must for inspectors working on commercial restaurants and is excellent for plan review personnel.  The gas line and ventilation requirements are of interest to anyone involved in the construction inspection/review process.

 

Please bring your CPC, CMC, and a calculator.

 

Upon completion, participants will:

      Be familiar with the terminology, sizing, and application changes for grease interceptors.

      Be informed on the NFPA 54 inclusion into gas line requirements

      Understand the NFPA 96 inclusion into commercial hoods and kitchen ventilation.

      Be aware of the ASHRAE 62 inclusion into ventilation air supply requirements.

      Be aware of exceptions to specific provisions.

      Have knowledge of when State Fire Marshall amendments apply.

      Know when alternate materials may be allowed.

Description: 

SEMINAR:

Requirements for the storage, handling and use of hazardous materials are contained in 2006 International Building Code� Sections 414 and 415 and Chapters 27 through 44 of the 2006 International Fire Code�. This one day seminar introduces participants to the IBC and IFC requirements for hazardous materials including an overview of chemical classification, the requirements for the construction of control areas, understanding and determining the Maximum Allowable Quantity of hazardous materials in one or more control areas, permitted methods of increasing quantities, overview of the various Group H (hazardous) occupancies, and the administrative and engineering controls for hazardous materials in Chapter 27 of the IFC. 

It is not necessary but is suggested that participants bring their copy of the 2007 CFC & CBC. 

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

      Locate and describe applicable hazardous materials in the 2006 IFC and the 2006 IBC.

      Define control areas and identify when control areas can be applied as an alternative to Group H Classification.

      Define mercantile display and determine how mercantile display can be applied as an alternative to Group H Classification.

      Determine when a building or structure should be classified as a Group H.

      Describe how each Group H classification impacts corresponding height and area limitation, mixed uses and means of egress for a building or structure.

      Classify materials as to appropriate hazard and determine allowable exempt amounts for each material.

SPEAKER:

Scott Stookey is an ICC Senior Technical Staff member with Product Development where he is responsible for the preparation of text and workbooks addressing fire protection, life safety and hazardous material provisions in the I-codes. 

Scott is a graduate of the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program at Oklahoma State University and was a fire protection engineer with the Austin (TX) and Phoenix (AZ) Fire Departments. He has an extensive background in hazardous materials, high pile storage, manufacturing processes and emergency response. He has published over 10 articles in journals and books. Scott instructs IBC fire-related and IFC seminars for ICC.
