George Thomas currently serves as the Chief Building and
Safety Official for the City of Pleasanton, California. Prior

. George started his career in local government with the City of
Sacramento, California. In

, George served as a Structural and Life-Safety Plan Review Engineer for five
years and also served as the Supervisor for the Residential Plan Review and
Permit Services Section for three years. Prior to working for local
government, George was employed as a civilian employee for the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers. With the Corps of Engineers, George served as a Structural
Design Engineer for three years, a Construction Project Manager for two years,
and spent his last year with the Corps of Engineers performing Design Quality
Assurance of projects that were designed by both in-house staff and by design
consultants.
George is an advocate for education and continuous
professional development. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil
Engineering and has a Master of Public Policy and Administration from
California

. In addition to holding a Professional Civil Engineering License in
California
, he holds ICC Certifications as a Plans Examiner in both the International and
Legacy Building Codes, and is a CABO Certified Building Official. George
is also a Registered Disaster Assessment Engineer and Instructor with the
California Office of Emergency Services. Throughout his professional
career, George has also used his knowledge as a Building Code Consultant, Expert
Witness, and Building Codes and Technology Instructor to share his expertise
with others who are involved with the built environment. George is often
described as having a passion for teaching and having a sincere appreciation for
the building profession.
