Spend two days with Dan Kaiser, DSA Certified Access Specialist, learning about Disabled Access Compliance in California, CASp.
These classes are being presented to assist the more experienced user of the codes to better understand accessibility requirements, and their applicability in California.  These courses are based on the new accessibility standards contained in the 2013 CBC and the 2010 ADASAD. Class reference materials are listed below, and it is strongly recommended that you bring them to these classes.

Separate program have been designed for each day, each designed to cover particular aspects of accessibility.  Attendees are encouraged to attend both sessions, but may register for either day.

Day One, Tuesday

Two main topics will be covered:

 

This first day will explore the background of the various laws, regulations, and standards driving disabled access requirements both nationally and within California.

At the conclusion of Day one, attendees should have a working knowledge of the requirements for multifamily dwelling accessibility in California, CBC Chapter 11A.   In addition, the California Housing and Community Development (HCD) Universal Design concepts will be presented.

Day Two, Wednesday

Public Accommodation, Commercial facilities, and Public Housing accessibility provisions will be presented, the 2010 ADA Standards and California CBC Chapter 11B.

Handouts will be provided, however, attendees should bring the following reference material to class:

 

CREDITS: These courses can be used to satisfy many of your Continuing Education requirements:

- Health & Safety Code, for jurisdictional building departmental personnel
- Business & Professions Code, for CA Licensed Architects
- Civil Code, for Certified Access Specialists

A certificate of continuing education will be provided at the conclusion of each day. 

SPEAKER: Dan Kaiser (CASp 039), a retired Building Official, is currently the owner of a private consulting firm, Access Services, Plus, specializing in disabled access compliance, training and education. Over his career in public service he has served as a Department Director, Chief Building Official, Supervising Building Inspector, Combination Building Inspector, and Codes Enforcement Officer for a number of jurisdictions throughout Southern California. Dan is currently serving as a Commissioner on the California Building Officials Training Institute (C.T.I.), responsible for the statewide training needs in California. Dan is a recognized instructor for ICC, CALBO, AIA, CACEO, OES, and has taught at the college level in California.   Dan currently holds 24 various certifications from a variety of organizations such as ICC, IAPMO, IFCI, NFPA, ACIA, AIA and the State of California.

TIME: Registration begins at 8:00 am each day; the Seminar will start at 8:30am and end by 5pm.

COST:            Napa Solano ICC Members: $125 each day
Non-Members $150 each day
LUNCH: Lunch is not included, however a variety of fine restaurants are within walking distance.

Updates for the California Green Building Standards Code (CAL Green)

for Architects, Designers, Contractors, Inspectors, Plans Examiners and Code Officials

This six-hour course is designed for those involved with compliance and enforcement of 2013 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen). The course will explore challenges and issues faced by inspectors, plans examiners, contractors and designers concerning construction, inspection, documentation and other enforcement issues. Strategies for compliance will also be discussed. This class will address both commercial and residential requirements of the 2013 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen). Earn 0.6 CEUs for completing this course. Instructional materials will be provided. You are not required to bring a CALGreen code book, however, if you have a copy available to you, it will be helpful and you are encouraged to bring it.

 

CREDITS: This course qualifies for continuing education requirements and a certificate of continuing education will be provided at the conclusion of class. 

 


SPEAKER: Greg is the Chief Building Official for the City of Davis. He has been working in the construction industry for over 35 years, 25 of those years in building code enforcement. Greg developed the City of Davis Green Building Ordinance. Greg has developed curriculum and taught Building Inspection Technology and Green Building at Cosumnes River College for eight years. Greg has also been a guest instructor teaching green building at UC Davis. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, BPI Building Analyst, and a HERS Rater.
