Significant Changes to the 2013 California Electrical Code (CEC)

for Architects, Designers, Contractors, Inspectors, Plans Examiners and Code Officials

John and Mike will present an overview of the significant changes to the 2013 California Electrical Code (CEC).  Changes include service definitions, labeling requirements for available fault currents, fine stranded conductor terminations, grounding electrode requirements, reorganization of Article 310, health care facilities, and three new NEC articles.

 CREDITS: This course qualifies for continuing education requirements through the IAEI.

A certificate of continuing education will be provided at the conclusion of class. 

 SPEAKERS: John Taecker, P.E. has worked for Underwriters Laboratories Inc. for 28 years. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is a California Registered Professional Engineer in Safety Engineering. He has served on various building, mechanical, and plumbing code development committees, and actively participates in all levels of the code development process for ICC and IAPMO. He is a nationally recognized speaker on electrical, building, mechanical, and plumbing products and installations.

 Mike Stone is the NEMA West Coast Field Representative since August 2012.  Prior to working for NEMA, Mike worked for over 25 years in building inspection for the County of Monterey and the Cities of Monterey, Salinas and, most recently, as Building Official for Watsonville.  Prior to his building inspection career, he was an electrician and is a Certified General Electrician in the State of California.  He is the alternate member representing NEMA on Code Making Panel 1 for the 2017 NEC.

 LOCATION: Solano County Event Center, 601 Texas Street, Room B, Fairfield, CA (The Old County Library with the Statue of Chief Solano in the Front Yard)

  • From San Francisco: Take the Fairfield/West Texas Street exit.  Merge onto West Texas Street and continue 1.4 miles.  Turn right on Union Avenue.
  • From Sacramento: Take exit #44 W Texas Street/Rockville Road. Continue straight 0.3mi then turn left at Rockville Road.  Pass under the freeway, then continue 1.4 miles on W Texas Street. Turn right on Union Avenue.
  • Park on the first or second floor of the parking structure.  Parking passes will be provided at Registration.

 TIME: Sign-in begins at 8:30am; the Seminar will start at 9:00am and end by 5pm.

 COST:      Napa Solano ICC Members:          $100

Non-Members:                                 $125

 BREAKFAST: a Light Continental Breakfast will be served as well as snacks for the breaks throughout the day.

 LUNCH: Lunch is not included.  A variety of fine restaurants are within walking distance.
